Virginia Children’s Book Festival plans exciting, interactive programming with star-studded author lineup

Just three months away, the Virginia Children’s Book Festival again promises three days of dynamic and innovative programs designed to inspire children from across the commonwealth to read—or write and illustrate their own stories. As in years past, the VCBF is anchored by a star-studded lineup of some of the most acclaimed authors and illustrators in the country. area artist installed at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU’s Children’s Pavilion

As children in paint-flecked smocks crowded around the huge canvas in Bedford art gallery, splotches of yellow combined to form an unusual picture: a man, in a bathtub, with underwear on his head. In the upper left corner, a taco appeared, floating in the air above a skunk. Above the tub, the words “be silly” gave the children—all of whom were attending the 2016 Virginia Children’s Book Festival at Longwood University—permission to imagine and create to their hearts’ content.
